Review #610; Rye #49: Barrell Seagrass

This is a bottling from Barrell Craft Spirits, that American company known for sourcing and blending barrels, bourbon, and rums in a variety of casks. This one is a blend of American and Canadian ryes, that were finished separately in Martinique Rhum Agricole casks, apricot brandy casks, and Madeira Barrels. Let us see if this wild experiment worked.

ABV: 59.2%

Nose: Green rye spice, red berries, tobacco leaf, herbaceous, spear mint,

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel. Bold Green rye spice, spearmint, herbaceous, slight grassiness, red berries, brine, lemon zest

Finish: Medium length finish. Spearmint, herbaceous, green apple, red berries, grassiness, brine, black pepper, lemon zest.

Rating: 9/10

This thing is just crazy good. Its full of flavors that complement each other well, fruits, spices, herbalness, grass, slight floralness. I was worried this would be a muddled mess but the cask influences really play off each other well. This is one of the most unique American whiskey offerings I have tried and makes me interested in exploring more of Barrell’s offerings.
