Review #607; Rum #108: Habitation Velier Last Ward 9yr (2009)

This rum comes to us from Mount Gay distillery located in Barbados. This 100% pot still rum was aged for 9years in Brabados and clocks in with an Angel’s share as a result of that tropical maturation. Aged entirely in ex-bourbon casks before being bottled with no additives and at barrel proof, let’s see how this stacks up.

ABV: 59%

Nose: Milk Chocolate, vanilla, tart blueberries, black pepper, nutmeg, faint licorice.

Palate: Medium mouthfeel. Licorice, vanilla, tart blueberries, raspberries, black pepper.

Finish: Medium length finish, dry. Licorice, star Anise, black pepper, nutmeg, vanilla.

Rating: 6/10

Overall a good quality rum. It has a bevy of good flavors and does not taste anything like Foursquare, lots of Star Anise and savory spices make this standout from the crowd. A very good rum with good flavors to it.
