Review #600; Rum #104: Le Galion Grand Arome Aficionados x Fine Drams Batch

This was selected by the Aficionados with the help of Fine Drams. This rum comes from the Le Galion distillery, a producer on Martinique that uses molasses as the base for its rum. This expression clocks in at 481.7 g/hLAA esters which is packing quite a punch compared to most distilleries offerings.

ABV: 58.32%

Nose: Pungent, heavy sea salt, black pepper, balsamic, olive oil, pineapple rind.

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel. Brine, black pepper, balsamic, olive oil, basil, pineapple rind, beef bouillon.

Finish: Long. Black pepper, olive oil, basil, pineapple rind, slight meatiness, beef bouillon.

Rating: 8/10

This bottling is awesome. It’s thick, rich and full in flavor and long in finish. It’s an assault of well balanced and complex savory flavors. Salt, pepper, olive oily, beef bouillon, slight meatiness, and a hint of fruit to bring it all together. This is simply an outstanding unaged rum and a real winner in my book. I will be going back for another bottle once I am finished with this one. This is a delight to sip neat as its challenging and complex, and will provide a great component to a cocktail with its unusual flavor profile.
