Review #595; Bourbon #138: Bardstown Destilae Orange Curacao

This is a 9 year old Tennessee bourbon and finished in ex-apple brandy liqueur casks from Copper and Kings for 18 months. Let’s see how it turned out.

ABV: 50%

Nose: Caramel, orange peel, allspice, nutmeg, slight apple, honey, lavender.

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, orange peel, allspice, black pepper, lavender.

Finish: Medium length finish. Warm, orange peel, black pepper, honey, vanilla bean.

Rating: 6/10

This is really interesting and different. The bourbon took on a ton of influence from the Orange Curacao barrel but it makes for an interesting drink. Classic bourbon flavors that marry well with the heavy floral and fruit notes that come from the barrel. In terms of a weird collaboration that tries to push the envelope of what bourbon can do, this is one of the better ones I have had.
