Review #586; Rum #99: Velier National Rums of Jamaica Long Pond VRW 12yr (2006)

This comes to us from the Velier release of National Rums of Jamaica series. This comes from the Long Pond distillery in Jamaica which caught on fire and burnt down. This one was tropically aged for 12 years, distilled on a double retort pot still, and comes in 150-250 gr/hlpa so lighter in terms of the funkiness.

I had this blind so keep that in mind while reading my notes.

ABV: 62.5%

Nose: Big burst of vanilla bean, tannins, dark chocolate.

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel. Big dessert vibes! Vanilla frosting, dark chocolate, tannins, black pepper.

Finish: Medium length finish. Warm. Orange Peel, Vanilla, black pepper, dark chocolate.

Rating: 6/10

This is pretty tasty. Big and bold in flavor with some good ageing on it. Vanilla frosting, the spices and hint of fruit all play pretty well together. Not the most complex or challenging of things I’ve had but it has good flavors.

Guess:: Foursquare Nobillary

Reveal: Vale Royal 2006 VRW (Wedderburn) Well this is very surprising. Overall very good, but to the surprise of no one who has read through my rum reviews, I prefer the funkier versions of this line.
