Review #583; Rum #97: Habitation Velier Worthy Park 2009

This comes to us from Velier, and is an 11 year old tropically aged, pot distilled rum from Worthy Park. Bottled with no additives, lets see how this hold up.

I tried this blind, and then was revealed the bottling so keep that in mind while reading my review.

ABV: 58.5%

Nose: Orange Peel, cough syrup, cherry, oak char, guava, licorice.

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel. Warm. Cough Syrupe, licorice, orange peel, vanilla, black pepper, mango, brine faint industrial funk.

Finish: Medium length finish. Warm. Heavy licorice, orange peel, vanilla bean, black pepper, slight oak char. Guava, mango

Rating: 7/10

This is a powerful bottling. High proof, great flavor and loads of complexity going on in it. Distinct tropical fruits, spices, and a lingering ever present cough syrup / light industrialness that makes this a great drink.

Guess: St.Lucia distillate rum. Barrel proof, 65-68% abv, aged 6-9 years. One of the old Hamilton St. Lucia’s.

Reveal: H.V. Worthy Park 2009 (11 Year) Well, I was way off on this one but was very pleased to find it tasted very different from other Worthy Park bottlings I have had. I am going to have to get myself a bottling of this thanks to this blind tasting.
