This comes to us from Duncan Taylor’s battlehill line. This young distillate was aged for 5 years in “Oak Casks and was lightly peated at 35ppm. I had this blind so keep that in mind while reading my notes.
ABV: 54%
Nose: Bready, cereals, vanilla, honey, graham cracker
Palate: Medium mouthfeel. Warm, Vanilla, bready, honey, milk chocolate, cereals, slight barrel char, brine.
Finish: Medium length finish, warm. Bready, vanilla, slight milk chocolate, oak spice, black pepper, brine.
Rating: 6/10
Overall, pretty solid. A nice array of flavors that are well balanced with each other, but it doesn’t really do much to stand out or rise up.
Guess: This is an Arran, 12-16 years old, 46-48% abv, ex-bourbon cask.
Reveal: Battlehill Benriach 5 Year (Peated) Well I was way off on everything about this one, but it still was pretty solid. I would happily drink this all day and was surprised it drank so below its proof for being so young. I was even more surprised to find out it was peated, but perhaps that is what helped it out.
