Review #571; Rum #88: Habitation Velier Hampden LROK 10yr (2010)

This rum was bottled by Velier, and produced by that famous distillery Hampden located in Jamaica. Distilled in 2010, aged for 10 years tropically in Jamaica, this was then bottled at cask strength in 2020 with no additives. Clocking in at 350-450 gr/hlpa for ester content, this doesn’t duke it out with some of the higher marks but can hold its own. Let’s see how it turned out.

ABV: 62%

Nose: Slightly over-ripe fruits, banana, mango, guava, toffee, dark chocolate.

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel. Over-ripe fruits but tamer, banana, mango, dark chocolate, nutmeg, black pepper.

Finish: Medium length finish, warm, dry. Tropical fruits up front, banana, mango, dark chocolate, allspice.

Rating: 6/10

This is a very good rum. Hampden rarely disappoints as I have yet to try anything bad from them. In terms of Hampden’s that I have tried however, this one falls a bit short in comparison to some of the other offerings I have had. It has those good base funky flavors, but it seems to lack the depth and complexity of other offerings. Its an unfair comparison, but I would rather be drinking Great House right now instead of this.
