Review #568; Rum #87: Chairman’s Reserve Master Select 8yr 50/50 JD1/Coffey “Lincoln Road Select”

Chairman’s Reserve Master Select “Lincoln Road” 8 Year

This bottling comes to us from St. Lucia distillers and was selected by the Lincoln Road package store. Aged tropically for 8 years, this is a blend of 2 different stills and was bottled with no additives. This is the last of this mini-series so let’s see how it holds up and ranks against the other 4.

50/50 John Dore 1 / Coffey Still

ABV: 54%

Nose: Strong tropical fruits, raspberry, guava, dark chocolate,

Palate: Medium mouthfeel. Tart raspberry, cough syrup, toffee,

Finish: Shorter finish. Burst of raspberry, vanilla, slight nutmeg, dark chocolate, black tea.

Rating: 6/10

This is very good. Nice good base flavors here, loads of toffee, dark chocolate, with some spices in the mix. Overall, a very good bottling and one I would happily buy, though it doesn’t rise to the greater depth and complexity of flavor compared to other Chairman’s select’s I have tried in this series for me.

Conclusion Overall, this series was pretty eye opening. I had only had 1 Master’s Select before this and really liked it. I had originally not been a fan of the Hamilton St. Lucia either but it had grown on me. But this series showed me how great St.Lucia distillers are and I would blind buy any of these selects. Tropically aged for a good lengths of time, good flavor, and no additives this is a fantastic cask selection program being run by St. Lucia.

Now for the quick and dirty ranking of all 5 (though I would be happy to buy and own all 5 of these) :

  1. Chairman’s Reserve Florida Rum Society Pick 8 Year (Eskimo Brothers)
  2. Chairman’s Reserve “Lincoln Road” 13 Year 50/50 JD1/Vendome
  3. Chairman’s Reserve “K&L” 8 year 50/50 JD1/Coffey
  4. Chairman’s Reserve “Bitters and Bottles” 13 Year Vendome
  5. Chairman’s Reserve “Lincoln Road” 8 Year 50/50 JD1/Coffey
