This comes to us from American IB Holmes Cay. This bottling was aged for 15 years in ex-bourbon casks in Belize at the Traveller distillery before being bottled with no additives from Cask number 6.
ABV: 61%
Nose: Heavy Vanilla Bean, Caramel, Black Pepper. Cinnamon.
Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel. Toffee, vanilla bean, tobacco leaf, black pepper, cinnamon.
Finish: Medium length finish, warm. Cocoa, slight coffee, cinnamon, vanilla bean, black pepper.
Rating: 6/10
This has some interesting notes going on in it. Strong vanilla, some coffee, black pepper and cinnamon spice round it all out. Overall, I can see why someone would like this a lot. Now I don’t think its bad, but its not my favorite rum I’ve had and for me pales in comparison to the Holmes Cay Jamaica I have had. Overall I am quite happy to have an Independent or “dependent” American rum bottler.
