Review #558; Mezcal #62: Rezpiral Mexicano & Tepeztate by Simeon & Apolonio

This is an exclusive bottling for the Madre restaurant. This 100 liter batch was cooked for 3 days in a conical oak fired oven,imll with machetes and darn Tahona, single distilled on copper, and the agave was grown for 13 – 25 years.

Mezcalero:Simeon & Apolonio Ramierz

Batch: Rezpiral Series 5

ABV: 52.4%

Nose: Autumnal leaves, raspberries, Green Vegetables, earthiness.

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel. Warm, chocolate, earthy, vanilla cream, light campfire smoke, pear.

Finish: Medium length finish. Warm, campfire smoke, faint black pepper,chocolate, earthiness, vanilla cream.

Rating: 7/10

Delicious, layered, nice balance of flavors. The campfire smoke and dark chocolate really stand out in this one. Being over 50% helps this one a little, but overall one I would be very happy to have a full bottle of if I could.
