This rum comes to us from Mauritius, from the Grays who also produce the New Grove Series. The cane for this rum was grown, harvest, and processed all on the Pampelmousses Estate in Mauritius. It was Column distilled from molasses. This rum is a blend of of spirits aged 5, 6 and 12 years, all aged in New and Used American oak as well as French Oak Barrels. It claims to have no additives as well. Let’s dive in.
ABV: 40%
Nose: Burnt Brown Sugar, Nutmeg, Vanilla,
Palate: Thin mouthfeel. Faint fruits, pear, raisin, vanilla, nutmeg, burnt brown sugar.
Finish: Short finish, vanilla, nutmeg, raisin, burnt brown sugar.
Rating: 5/10
This has good flavor going on in it. Good fruits, some spices, real light but tasty. The biggest thing that hurts this is the proof, a bump up to 46% or 50% and this would really shine in my opinion. Overall though, for a rum experience that hits the marks for an aged, column still rum with no additives.
