This single cask come from former Bruichladdich CEO Mark Reynier. Launched in 2014, this 6 year old octomore was aged in an French oak / ex-sauternes cask. It had no color added and was non-chill filtered.
ABV: 50%
Nose: Wildflowers, green grapes, graham cracker, brine, faint vegetalness,
Palate: Medium mouthfeel. Green grapes, metallic, vegetal peat, some brine, lemon zest
Finish: Short finish. Pop of brine, slight vegetal peat, then fades, lemon zest,
Rating: 6/10
This is good, sweet and simple. I would be shocked if you told me this was an octomore. While tasty, the nose is the most interesting part of the experience. It expresses some good notes on the palate and finish, but could use with a touch more complexity for me.
