Review #533; Rum #67: Golden Devil Hampden 27yr (1993) C<>H

This comes to us from K&L once again, part of their Golden Devil line. This particular offering is a 27 year aged Hampden. This offering was aged continentally, comes from a pot still, and is one of the oldest rums I have tried to this date from my favorite distillery, just to get my bias out of the way. Let us see how it performs.

ABV: 64.8%

Nose: Funky fruits, bananas, mango, nutmeg, brown sugar,

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel. Warm, funky fruits, mango, light pineapple, banana, nutmeg, toffee, brown sugar, pepper,

Finish: Medium length finish. Warm, dry. Raspberry, guava, banana, tannins, nutmeg, vanilla cream, tannin

Rating: 8/10

This is quite good. It has some nice funky fruits to it, pretty roaring levels when you consider 27 years of time spent inside a barrel. The tannins come through to provide a nice, if slightly overbearing oak structure. Overall, this is a great rum, well-crafted and full of flavor. However, for me that slight over-bearing oak just brings it down enough from rising to legendary status for me.
