Review #530; Rum #64: Golden Devil 16yr (2004) DDL Versailles “K&L Select”

This rum, selected by K&L Wines and bottled under Golden Devil, comes to us from Demerara Distiller Inc. This rum was distilled on the Versailles wooden pot still, aged for 16 years in a presumed Ex-Whiskey cask, and aged in what I presume in Europe.

ABV: 61.4%

Nose: Vanilla, honey, slight pepper, mango,

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, a bit of heat, vanilla, hay, honey, black pepper, industrial notes, plastic, slight oil

Finish: Medium length finish. Hot, unbalanced, pepper, plastic, hay

Rating: 3/10

I am not a fan of this one. Unbalanced heat, bad flavors like industrial plastic, over tannic notes. The nose writes a nice check, but then the palate and finish veer over a cliff into a realm that I don’t want to hangout in. I am sure there are people out there who like this style, but this one is not for me.
