Review #528; Scotch #177: Ardmore 22yr (1997) SMWS 66.168 “Wafts you to Heaven”

This bottling comes to us from the Scotch Malt Whiskey Society. This Ardmore was aged for 22 years in a refill bourbon hogshead, then bottled at cask strength with no color added and was non-chill filtered.

ABV: 51.6%

Nose: Lemon Zest, Honey, black pepper, cereals, vanilla frosting,

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel. Lemon Zest, faint meaty peat, black pepper, cereals, vanilla cream, slight breadiness,

Finish: Medium length finish, warm. Lemon Zest, Honey, oiliness, pepper, oak spice

Rating: 7/10

The flavors in this are nice, though if this was peated its all but vanished. The mouthfeel and lingering oiliness is nice, as is the heavy lemon zest and honey that permeates the experience. This strikes a good balance between base spirit and cask influence. Overall, a good showing from Ardmore and the SMWS
