This rum comes to us from Haiti from Distillerie de Port-au-Prince, a collaboration between Barbancourt and La Masion & Veiler. This is unaged rum distilled from Syrup and Fresh Cane Juice, with the sugar cane coming from Michel Sajous’s farm. They are then fermented for 10-12 days with yeast and made separately and end up 85-90% syrup distillate and 10-15% fresh cane juice, then distilled a second time together. It comes out at 72% off the still and is reduced to 57% for bottling.
ABV: 57%
Nose: Tropical fruits, some mango, grapefruit, brine, cream cheese,
Palate: Medium mouthfeel, cream cheese, mango, brine, brown sugar.
Finish: Medium length. Cream Cheese, Briney, Mango, herbalness, brown sugar.
Rating: 6/10
This is interesting, as it had a little bit of what I associate with Clairin going on, but not any of the major producer. The light cheese funk, brine, and bit of tropical fruit comes together to make a good experience while being tempered by some of the brown sugar. Overall, this is very good to me and another win for unaged Haitian rum.
