This comes from Jim Beam and their Bookers line, a cask strength offering batch that is released 3 times per year with a whimsical name. This one is the 3rd batch of 2020, and comes in at 6 years, 6 months, and 7 days old.
I had this blind, so keep that in mind while reading my notes.
ABV: 63.65%
Nose: Dark Chocolate, Mint, oak spice, vanilla,
Palate: Light mouthfeel, green wood, mint, light vanilla, stevia, a touch heavy on the oak influence.
Finish: Medium length finish. Oak Spice, Dark Chocolate, stevia, a touch heavy on the oak.
Rating: 5/10
Guess: Hits the notes of a classic bourbon, vanilla, some caramel and oak but this veers into not good territory for me. Heat is at an acceptable level, but there is a note of artificial sweetner / chocolate that I get. It reminds me of a bourbon that has been recasked into a fresh charred oak ala Old Forester 1910 or Jack Daniels Heritage barrel. Those tend to impart a fake sweetness and overly tannic quality to the whiskey that I am getting here. Old Forester 1910 is my final guess
Reveal: Bookers Pigskin Batch. Well, way off again. These blinds are hard. But I was surprised to learn this was bookers as it seemed off profile from beam for me. I have to say that for the price this commands it’s pretty disappointing and lacks the depth of flavor a good Knob Creek SIB pick can have for me.
