Review #506; Japanese Whisky #2: Nikka From The Barrel

This is a blended malt from Japan, that is a blend of Single malt and grain whiskey that is then married in a couple of different casks including bourbon, sherry butts and refill hogsheads.

I had this blind so keep that in mind while reading my notes

ABV: 51.4%

Nose: Faint light nose, green rye spice, faint black pepper,

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, faint rye spice, black pepper, mint, faint caramel, faint tease of peat.

Finish: Short finish, faint bread notes, black pepper, vanilla, mint, faint tease of peat.

Rating: 4/10

Overall, I did not enjoy this. The flavors felt a bit faint for me, the heat was a bit unbalanced, and it had this minty thing going on that I didn’t dig. If I had to guess, this was a craft bourbon, aged 2-4 years, 48-52% abv.

Guess: Lets say, New Riff Backsetter bourbon, I wish it had more peat and age. As its unbalanced and not very good.

Reveal: Well this is not what I Thought it was at all, overall, this wasn’t bad by any means, but it left me wanting a lot more. I will have t try this more in the future, but at present I will keep waling by it if I see it.
