Review #494; Scotch #168: Glen Scotia 11yr (2007) SMWS 93.118 “Alladin’s Cave”

This is a bottling from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society; it comes from Glen Scotia and was aged for 11 years in a First Fill Bourbon Barrel. It was then bottled at cask strength, with no color added and was non-chill filtered.

ABV: 57.6%

Nose: Vanilla Bean, light honey, peppery, fresh baked bread

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel. Rich Vanilla Cream, Honey, slight confectionary sugar, fresh baked bread, lemon zest

Finish: Long, warm. Heavy Vanilla Cream, Peppery, honey, apricot, fresh baked bread. Lemon zest

Rating: 7/10

Thick mouthfeel, tons of flavor and with a good influence of a slightly funky base spirit and the first fill bourbon barrel this one is a winner to me. Lots of vanilla, some spices, and some savory tobacco leaf and pepper popping in and out, this was a good selection by the SMWS.
