Review #485; Scotch #164: Glen Moray 11yr 2008 “Lady of The Glen”

This comes to us from Lady of the Glen. This Glen Moray was aged for 11 years in bourbon hogsheads, and then finished in a tiny Ex-Pedro Ximenez Octave from Josafer Tanoaria. This was bottled at cask strength with no color added, and was non-chill filtered.

ABV: 54.3%

Nose: Peppery, Oak Spice, Malty, chocolate.

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, cocoa, allspice, nutmeg, maltiness.

Finish: Medium length, dried dark fruits, cocoa powder, allspice, cinnamon, so much oak spice,

Rating: 5/10

This has some good flavors going on in it, but it isn’t very well balanced for me. The oakiness is overbearing, it tastes a bit like licking the inside of the barrel. That oak just pops up randomly, the strong spices have nothing to balance against sweetness wise and this ends up being a very dry and tannic experience. I could see the right mood striking someone to sip on this, but it feels like the base spirit has been lost amidst the PX Octave.
