Review #482-483; Bourbon #118-119: Buffalo Trace Single Barrel Yankee Store Pick #19

Buffalo Trace SiB Yankee Store Pick Barrel #19 (Central Ohio Bourbon Glass)

These are 2 Buffalo Trace single barrels, picked from different stores. I have no info on them besides the basics and felt it would be fun to pit them head to head against each other.

ABV: 45%

Nose: Light Cherry, vanilla, slight oak spice, cinnamon, some heat, ethanol

Palate: Light mouthfeel, cherry, light oak, vanilla, unbalanced heat, a bit of young oak

Finish: Medium length, ethanol and heat forward, light vanilla, corn sweetness.

Rating: 3/10

Buffalo Trace SiB Bourbon Wine and Street select Barrel #17 (Penelope Bourbon Glass)

ABV: 45%

Nose: Deep Vanilla Cream, Toffee, Cherry, Corn Sweetness, Oak Spice

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Vanilla Bean, Cherry, oak spice, nutmeg, slight pepper.

Finish: Medium length, warm, toffee, cherry, oak spice, nutmeg

Rating: 6/10

Of the two of these, the Bourbon Wine & Spirits came out way ahead. It had deeper flavors, more interesting flavors, and just hit that classic 45% bourbon profile. The Yankee Store Pick was a hot, unbalanced mess that tasted a bit young.

Overall, they are both single barrel products so the variance is an issue. I would try before I bought but for the 28ish dollars a Buffalo Trace SiB can cost, it’s a good deal when you just want some classic low proof bourbon.
