Review #462; Rum #48: Wray and Nephew Overproof (22 Days in a Mini-Barrel)

This is Wray and Nephew Overproof that was put in a small barrel at home and then aged for 22 days and was then bottled. I tasted it blind so keep that in mind when reading my notes.

ABV: ?????

Nose: Black Pepper, Oak Spice, toasted Brown Sugar, cinnamon, sautéed apple, toffee,

Palate: Medium mouthfeel. Heat, raisin, cinnamon, banana, apple, black pepper, allspice, black tea.

Finish: Medium length, warm and most. Allspice, apple skin, pepper, allspice. Heat.

Rating: 7/10

This is quite interesting, lots of heat, but the fruit and spices balance the heat out to bring an array of flavor. It attacks you in all the best ways. Lots of apple, Raisin, cinnamon, and some vanilla that come together to make a very good and tasty product.

Guess: Brandy, 4-7 years old, apple base, 60-62% abv. Lairds Single barrel Cask Strength Pick?

Reveal: Wray and Nephew Overproof Barrel Aged 22 Days

Woah this is quite the head turner. I should have guessed some rum but the fruits had me going in another direction, and the Jamaican funk seems toned down. Very humbling but still pretty darn tasty.
