Review #458; Scotch #154: Compass Box Great King Street – Ex-Sherry Marrying Cask – Prestige Selection

Compass Box Glasgow Blend – 8 month Ex-Sherry marrying cask, selected by Prestige-Ledroit

This comes to us from the Blenders at compass box. The Glasgow blend is a blend of the following:

29% – “A Distillery near the Town of Aberlour” – FF Sherry Butt Single Malt

35.2% – Cameronbridge Distillery – FF Bourbon Barrel, Single Grain

9.9% – Clynelish – FF Bourbon Barrel Single Malt

18.2% – Laphroaig- Refill Barrel Single Malt

5.1% – Distillery near Aberlour – Revatted Sherry Butt Single Malt

2.6% – Highland Malt Blend – Custom French Oak Cask Heavy Toast

This was then married in a an ex-sherry cask for 8 months before being bottled. I had this blind and was then revealed the bottle, so keep that in mind while reading my notes.

ABV: 48%

Nose: Figs, plums, lemon zest, malty, oak spice, pepper,

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel. Campfire smoke, a bit of ash, raisins, light peat, brine, orange peel

Finish: Medium length warm. Plum, raisins, brine, orange peel, light campfire smoke, medium level meaty peat.

Rating: 6/10

This is good, it has some nice fruitiness to it, and some peaty-ness going on that fluctuates between BBQ and Vegetal. The peat is a bit balanced with the fruits and spices that reign it in from being an all out assault, but the peat is still there and lingers for a bit on the finish.

Guess: This is a peated single malt, aged in ex-sherry casks, bottled at between 50-53% abv. Laphroaig Cairdeas 2020?

Reveal: Compass Box, Glasgow Blend Ledat Single Marriage cask, 8 months ex-sherry

Huh, I would have never pegged this as a blend but for the money these go for it’s pretty decent. I actually have a bottle of this I haven’t opened yet that I will have to get to.

1 | Disgusting | So bad I poured it out.

2 | Poor | I wouldn’t consume by choice.

3 | Bad | Multiple flaws.

4 | Sub-par | Not bad, but better exists.

5 | Good | Good, just fine.

6 | Very Good | A cut above.

7 | Great | Well above average

8 | Excellent | Really quite exceptional.

9 | Incredible | An all time favorite

10 | Perfect | Perfect
