These barrels were heated and toasted before being charred, put into the barrel at 100 proof, then aged in the highest part of the barrelhouse. This release was a limited number of barrels, with each bottle coming from a single barrel. This comes to us from barrel HB-20837

This release is much heralded by many, and I appreciate JD’s willingness to experiment. However, the tannins in this overpower in a way that I do not like. An overwhelming tannic note is found all throughout and it lingers a bit too long on the finish. While this is an interesting experiment, I think I’ll still reach for Jack Daniels Barrel proof when I want my Tennessee Bourbon.
