Review #384; Bourbon #102: Cream of Kentucky (12.3yr)

I had this blind and then has the bottled revealed to me after I took my notes, so keep that in mind.

This is a release from former Master Distiller at Four Roses Jim Rutledge. This is a sourced brand from an unknown Kentucky distillery (likely barton). These bottles were a “limited” release of 36,000 bottles and were priced at a suggested retail price of $150.

ABV: 51%

Nose: Spicy, Rye Spice, Oak Spice, Vanilla Frosting Slight Nuts, Tobacco Leaf.

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Rye Spice, Oak Spice, Vanilla, Black Pepper, Tobacco Leaf,

Finish: Medium Length, Rye Spice, Oak Spice, Vanilla, Funk

Rating: 7/10

This is a bourbon, from Kentucky. I would guess this to be a Russels Reserve Single Barrel. This was revealed to me to be the above Cream of Kentucky 12.3 year and overall I am pretty impressed. It has a nice age and complexity to it and good flavors. The price is a bit high for my taste but I look forward to seeing what else Rutledge puts out at his new distillery.
