Review #377; Mezcal #21: Maguey Melate by Antonio Carols Martinez

This is a bottling from Maugey Melate. This Marteño comes to us from Mezcalero Antonio Carlos Martinez. It was produced in a clay pot still, fermented in a wood fermentation vat for 15 days, and bottled at still strength.

ABV: 49.6%

Nose: Mesquite, Green Apple, blueberries, clay, lemon zest, light minerality, clean campfire smoke.

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel. Mesquite, Lemon Zest, faint green apple, black pepper, campfire smoke.

Finish: Medium length, Black Pepper, Lemon Zest, Clay, light campfire smoke

Rating: 7/10

This is overally pretty tasty. The flavors are punchy and strong, with tons of savory flavors coming through with some good balance. This is only a sample of one of Melate Maugey releases, but this makes me excited to have joined the club and for the future releases to come!
