Review #376; Scotch #143: Longrow 14yr 2003

This is a 14 year old limited offering from Springbank of their Longrow line. It was aged for 14 years in refill Oloroso sherry casks then bottled at cask strength with no color added and was non-chill filtered. Let’s see how it holds up.

ABV: 57.8%

Nose: Meaty Peat, Rich Figs, Dark Chocolate, Gritty Red Berries, Tobacco leaf, light malty funk.

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel. Meaty Peat, Strong Rich Figs, Dark Chocolate, allspice, leather, tobacco leaf, light funk .Kind of a gritty, almost chewable sherry.

Finish: Medium length, light ash, Rich Meaty Peat, Tart Blueberries, Dark Chocolate, allspice, black tea, tobacco leaf, leather. Coats your mouth thickly with the meaty peat and dark chocolate, with some underlying berries.

Rating: 8/10

What a delicious dram. Rich meaty peat, tempered by some sweetness, that is very in your face and not subtle. This is a bit more subtle than say some Ballechin, but this is still a pretty bold peat / sherry combo in all of the best ways.
