Review #370; Scotch #141: Glenfarclas 8yr 2011 SMWS 1.211 “Ironing a Lemon”

This is an offering from The Scotch Malt Whiskey Society. This is an 8 year Glenfarclas, aged all 8 years in a First-Fill Bourbon barrel. It was bottled at cask strength with no color added and was non-chill filtered.

ABV: 60.5%

Nose: Spicy, Black Pepper, grass, Lemon Zest, Vanilla, shortbread, malty.

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, hot, vanilla frosting, lemon zest, malt, pepper.

Finish: Medium length, shortbread, malty, heat, lemon zest.

Rating: 3/10

This is a young hot mess. The flavors are all out of balance and the heat dominates most of it, with some off balance malt and that strong lemon note to jumble things up and not in a good way. This one needed more years in the cask.
