Review #366; Scotch #138: Cambus 29yr 1989 SMWS G8.10 “A Trumpet Blast in a Barrel”

This is a 29 year old Cambus from the SMWS. This was aged in a Refill Ex-Bourbon Hogshead, then bottled at Cask Strength with no color added and was non chill filtered. This will be my first foray into single grain whiskey, so lets see how it holds up.

ABV: 57.5%

Nose: Strong, Vanilla, must, slight corn sweetness, honey, wood spice,

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Vanilla frosting , musty. Corn Sweetness, slight honey. Tartness, pepper,

Finish: Medium length, oak spice, pepper, must, vanilla frosting. Burnt Brown Sugar, chocolate.

Rating: 6/10

For my first foray into single grain this is pretty tasty. This has great notes from the barrel, enough wood spice and bitter to keep the sweet balanced, and if this is corn/wheat base it reminds me of some American corn whiskey, in fact I wish I had an ultra aged American Corn Whiskey to compare it to.
