This is the 9th batch of this offering from Buffalo Trace, it has No Age Statement and is highly sought after by those taters out there. This is a batch that at one point was deemed “great”. Let’s see how it stacks up.
ABV: 65.95%
Nose: Strong, punchy, Black Pepper, Oak Spice, Cherry Cola, Vanilla, Tobacco Leaf, Spicy.
Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel. Oak Spice, Strong Cherry Cola, Black pepper, dark chocolate Spicy, Strong oak and leather on a breath out.
Finish: Medium Length, Oak, black pepper, spice. Cherry and light vanilla.
Rating: 7/10
This is pretty good. It is an all out assault on you with oak, pepper, leather, and some dark chocolate and vanilla to balance it out. Its just a good barrel proof bourbon, and Stagg Jr seems to be pretty consistent regardless of batch. I’d gladly grab one if I happened across it.
