Review #359; Scotch #135: Caol Ila 12yr 2007 Scotch Universe Callisto VII

This is an offering from Independent Bottler Scotch Universe. It is a 12 year old Caol Ila, aged in a 1st Fill Ruby Port Wine Barrique. This was bottled with no color added, non-chill filtered, and bottled at cask strength. Let’s see how it holds up.

ABV: 57.4%

Nose: Meaty BBQ Peat/Smoke, Tart red grapes, Roasted Peppers, tobacco leaf,

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel. BBQ Meat Peat / Smoke. Roasted Peppers, light rotting vegetation, lemon zest, raisins.

Finish: Medium Length, syrupy. BBQ Meaty Peat, pepper, lemon zest, raisins.

Rating: 7/10

This is a good marriage of wine and peat. The peatiness from Caol Ila is there, with some nice juicy fruits from the FF port barrel. This one punches up there pretty well and is a dram I would want a full bottle of for sure.
