Review #344; Bourbon #97: Russel’s Reserve Single Barrel Central Ohio Bourbon / OPA Selection

This is a Russels Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon, picked by the Central Ohio Bourbon group in collaboration with OPA Bar and Grill. It was aged for 9 years and 7 months in Rickhouse CN-A on Floor 4-32-2. Let’s see how well they chose.

Nose: Spicy, slight leather, tobacco leaf, vanilla, turkey “funk”, tannic.

Taste: Medium oily mouthfeel. Vanilla Frosting, funk, spicy, black pepper, dark chocolate.

Finish: Medium length, Warm, Dry, Spicy, Tobacco Leaf, Oak Spice, Black Pepper.

Overall: I went back and forth as I have drank through this bottle on my opinion of it. It’s a bit of a blast of those savory notes with hints of the sweeter ones to balance it out and ultimately, its weird funkiness eventually won me over. RRSiB is one of my favorite store picks to purchase in bourbon.
