This is an annual release from Balcones, a Texas Distillery of their rum. It is made from molasses and double distilled in pot stills, then aged for 18 months in new charred oak. Let’s see how it holds up.
ABV: 65.3%
Nose: Vanilla Bomb, Heavy Oak Spice, Black Pepper, sawdust
Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Vanilla, pepper, oak spice, , slight tobacco leaf, sawdust, greenwood.
Finish: Medium length, sawdust, oak spice, pepper.
Rating: 4/10
There are good notes in here and it has potential, however it gets lost and muddled in the sawdust, wood, and heat. On the exhale it’s like I licked a burnt piece of wood I wavered pretty heavily on the score for this one but settled on what I did. I can see why someone would love this, its brash and in your face.
