Review #309; Rum #99: Privateer Distiller’s Drawer Sea Smoke #1

This is a single cask offering from Privateers Distillers Drawer line, a rum aged for 2 years and 11 months in an Ex-Scotch cask. Let’s see how the scotch barrel impacted this rum!

ABV: 53%

Nose: Brine, slight vanilla, black pepper, allspice, slight campfire smoke.

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, slight campfire smoke, brine. Black Pepper, slight dark chocolate and vanilla. Slight molasses.

Finish: Medium length. Warm, moist. Brine, slight smoke, hint of meaty bbq-esque peat. Vanilla.

Rating: 7/10

This is weird and awesome. The scotch barrel has a pretty heavy influence, if I had to guess I would say Ex-Ardbeg or Lagavulin. I would love to have more weird releases like this using unique and weird barrels. I wish I had been able to get a full bottle.
