Review #305; Scotch #108: Octomore 10.1

This is one of the Octomore offerings from Bruichladdich. It was Malted to 107 ppm, distilled in 2013 from 100% Scottish Grown Barley. It was matured for 5 years on Islay and aged entirely in 1st Fill Ex-Bourbon barrels. It was bottled Non Chill Filtered and no color added. Let’s see how this release holds up.

ABV: 59.8%

Nose: Sweet peat, slight smoke, strong vanilla, malty. Slight lactic.

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel. Warm. Slight sour, campfire smoke, sweet peat. Lactic, vanilla frosting, toffee. Orange Citrus.

Finish: Medium length, citrus, malty. Warm and sweet peat, slight smoke. Lactic. Toffee.

Rating: 7/10

This all works together pretty well. Its funny how Octo prides its self on being peat bombs, but even with the peat its not very present even at 5 years. Pretty tasty, If a bit on the pricey side.
