Review #296; Rye #42: Barrell Rye 13yr Single Barrel

Barrell Rye 13yr SiB #L937

This is an offering from Barrell of a 13 year old Blended Rye from Canada. It’s mashbill is undisclosed but it was aged in ex-bourbon barrels I think? (I’m not sure on this one) Clocking in at $100 a bottle, we’ll have to see how it stands up to a similar age stated cask strength rye offering from Canada, Whistlepig’s Single Barrel Cask Strength 10 year old ryes.

ABV: 63.9%

Nose: Grassy, rye spice, black pepper, green apple, vanilla, wood spice.

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, very strong green apple, allspice, vanilla frosting, lemon zest.

Finish: Long, warm, tingly. Green Apple, black pepper, allspice, vanilla frosting, slight grass.

Rating: 8/10

This is some pretty great rye, nice rye spice, strong green apple, pepperiness with some wood spice and vanilla, this hits the highs of ryes pretty spot on for me. It’s right up there with some of the best Whistlepig Single Barrel’s I have had.
