Review #294; American Whiskey #8: J. Mattingly White Elephant Single Barrel 11yr

J Mattingly White Elephant

Disclaimer: A local friend gifted me this bottle for free, I don’t know what area that falls in but I did not pay for this bottle and as a reviewer I feel the need to make my readers aware of that fact.

This is a bottling from everyone’s favorite blender, Bourbon30. All I know is that the back says it is 11 years old, from Indiana. I was able to find 0 information of the whiskey inside other than the label which calls its Straight Whiskey. Let’s see how it is

ABV: 69%

Nose: Strong Butterscotch, ethanol, vanilla, wood spice, buttery popcorn.

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, heat, butterscotch, slight allspice. Cotton Candy, vanilla.

Finish: Medium length, heat, toffee, butterscotch.

This is ok, its not bad and its kind of interesting with the age, high proof, and flavors it has. In fact it reminds me very much of the Obtainum Light Whiskey I reviewed a few weeks ago. The obtainum is half the price this was (to be clear this bottle was a gift). Its not bad flavor wise, but in terms of value I could never recommend Mattingly.
