Review #290; Scotch #102: Laphroaig Triple Wood

I wrote these notes blind, and then was revealed the bottle afterward, so keep that in mind.

ABV: 40%

Nose: Musty, sawdust, Vanilla, oak, astringent.

Palate: Thin, watery mouthfeel, Sawdust, oak spice, vanilla.

Finish: Medium length finish, slight ash, peat.

Rating: 3/10

Guess: This is either an uninspired Scotland single malt, or a poor Texas single malt. Overall it’s actively bad. There’s little flavor, and a bad kind of peat and ash sticks with you (and I love peated offerings). The wood is also dominant in every way, like it was aged in small casks.

Reveal: Laphoriag Triple Wood

Kind of surprised at this being Laphoriag, but perhaps it’s a bit of a mess in terms of too many casks. Ill have to revisit but not a fan of this one.
