Background: This rye comes to us by way of the Knob Creek brand from the Jim Beam Distillery. This barely legal rye mashbill was barreled in 2009 then bottled in 2018 at cask strength.
ABV: 59.8%
Nose: Mellow Rye spice, Strong Vanilla, sweet baking spices. Bold due to proof but not overpowering.
Palate: Vanilla, rye spice, sweet spices, Pepper, honey, brown sugar. The high proof brings these flavors out strong but doesn’t over power it at all.
Finish: Long, black pepper and baking spices that demonstrates its proof, then fades into those sweet vanilla, honey and oak that lingers for a while.
This is very damn good. I am going out and buying a 2nd bottle asap. This hits all the things I want in a good rye and amps them up to 11.
