Review #276; Scotch # Laphroaig 16yr

This is a new limited offering from Laphroaig, clocking in at 16 years old and having spent the entirety of that time in ex-bourbon barrels. Let’s see how it compares to other in the Laphroaig line

ABV: 48%

Nose: Iodine, vanilla, Medicinal Peat, lemon Zest, toffee, light smoke.

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, tangy smoked meat. Iodine, rotting fall vegetation, lemon zest, black pepper.

Finish: Short, slight peat, vanilla, meaty smoke. Fades into a tangy lemon zest finish.

Rating: 7/10

The peat is pretty toned down here compared to some other Laphroaig’s I’ve had and the barrel influence really shines through. It has the great marriage of Peat and Ex-Bourbon, which Laphroaig is able to pull off so well. If you want to spend a laidback evening with Laphroaig and peat, throw this in your glass.
