Review #254; Scotch #84: Port Charlotte 2007 CC:01

This is a NAS peated expression from Bruichladdich that has been aged its entire life in French Oak. I had this blind then was revealed the bottle so keep that in mind.

ABV: 57.8%

Nose: Light sweet peat. Rotting fall vegetation, medicinal iodine, lemon zest, earthy.

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, sweet meaty peat, vanilla, rotting vegetation, iodine, black pepper, lemon zest.

Finish: Medium length, Sweet peat, ash, vegetation, slight vanilla. Fades into a warm lemon zest spice.

Rating: 7/10

Guess: Overall a pretty good peated expression, the peat is nice and strong and hits what I want. Hmmm, I would guess this to be a Laphoraig, ex-bourbon barrel, between 55-60%. Is it Laphoraig 10 CS?

Reveal: Port Charlotte 2007 CC:01

I’ve never had this and it’s pretty damn good. I don’t get very much of the French Cognac barrels but this is something I would definitely want a bottle of.

5 | Good | Good, just fine.

6 | Very Good | A cut above.

7 | Great | Well above average

8 | Excellent | Really quite exceptional.

10 | Perfect | Perfect
