This is a rum of course, selected by a tasting panel comprised of user of the r/Rum forum on Reddit. It is a Venezuelan Rum from Corporacion Alcoholes del Caribe S.A It was distilled in a column-still in April, 2005 from molasses, and then left to mature in French oak casks in Venezuela until June 2017. It was then finished in ex-rum barrel #39 in England until it was bottled on the 28th of August, 2019 with an outturn of 251 bottles.
This was bottled at Cask Strength with no filtering, coloring or dosing. Let us dive in and see how they chose.
ABV: 59.3%
Nose: Pineapple, Brown Sugar, Mango, Slight Vanilla, Raisins, allspice, slight dark chocolate, banana.
Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Mango, Slight Vanilla, Allspice, Dark Chocolate, banana.
Finish: Medium length finish, banana, mango. Burnt brown sugar, vanilla, raisins.
Rating: 7/10
Once again, the people on the committee nailed it. The fruitiness is very forward, tempered by the savory spices and dark chocolate. I think rum fans would dig this in general and I am very glad that I was able to grab a bottle, and may be dipping back in for another bottle or two.
