Background: A straight rye made from pumpernickel rye and aged for at least 3 years in American Oak. Produced by Middlwest Spirits distillery located in Columbus Ohio. They were formerly producing spirits under the OYO name.
ABV: 48%
Nose: Warm oak, rye spice, a nice warm sitting by the fire on a fall evening smell I cannot place. Hint of the pumpernickel and dark chocolate. Sweet and spicy.
Palate: Vanilla, rye, pepper, the fall taste I described above, hint of oak.
Finish: Nice length, oak spice that warms and turns into a tasty pumpernickel finish.
A nice rye that balances sweet and spicy. Enjoy during the fall or next to a fireplace on a cold winter evening. One of the few craft distilleries that I look forward to their product aging and seeing what they can do.
