Review #232; Rum #14: Velier Royal Navy Very Old Rum

Velier Royal Navy Very Old Rum

This is a blend of rums from Italian Bottler, Veiler. It has 3 well aged rums in it

• Guayanese Rum; Aged for 15+ years in Europe (Enmore?)

• Jamaica pot still: Tropical Aged 12+ years (Worthy Park + others)

• Caroni: Tropically aged 20+years

The label claims the average aged of 17.42 years, which suggests a higher content of the Caroni than the others. Lets dig into this fun dram!

ABV: 57.18%

Nose: Rotting fruity funk, diesel and fuel, vanilla, papaya, banana, tart berries, pineapple bark,

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, diesel, rotting fruits, tart berries, pineapple bark. A nice funk undertone runs through.

Finish: medium to longish finish, warm, rotting fruits, diesel, tart berries and pineapple bark, Underscored by a warming vanilla with the funk throughout.

Rating: 8/10

This is the first Caroni I have had and the funky uniqueness to this is something I find pretty fantastic. The flavors are pared down slightly with the savory battling the funk but its balanced and delicious.
