Review #230; Scotch #74: Port Charlotte Scottish Barley (2017)

Port Charlotte Scottish Barley (2017)

This is a “heavily” peated release from Bruichladdich at 40 ppm. They use 100% Scottish Barley from Port Charlotte to make the base spirit. Let’s see how this dram stacks up.

ABV: 50%

Nose: Peat, Slight Vanilla, Hay, Green Apple, Black Pepper, lemon zest.

Palate: Medium, oily mouthfeel. Warm, savory peat. Black pepper, hay, lemon zest, light vanilla.

Finish: Short length, vanilla, warm peat, pepper, lemon zest fade out quick.

Rating: 6/10

The flavors are good here, and it stands on its own well. It’s a bit pricey for a presumably young single malt but overall not a bad showing. Just wish the finish was longer on it.
