This is a 9 year Macallan from Gordon and Macphail that I had blind, so keep that in mind while reading my notes.
ABV: 43%
Nose: Malty, Cereal, honey, Vanilla, stone fruit,
Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Cereals, malt, hay, honey, a bit of wax, slight tart bitterness,
Finish: Medium length, honey, cereal, fruit sweetness, tartness, and oak.
Rating: 6/10
Guess: This is a very malty cereal driven dram but in a good way if a bit simple. I would guess this to be an ex-bourbon cask, between 43-48%, and between 8-12 years of age. A Clynelish offering?
Reveal: Gordon & MacPhail Macallan 9 Year 43%
Off on the cask finish, but pretty good on the abv and age, though I should narrow those down in the future. All in all, I like this more than the standard 12 Mac puts out, more interesting and seems to be a bit more spirit driven. I wish more Mac IB’s got out there. Thanks!
