Review #201; Brandy #6: Copper & Kings Phoenix Barrel Party Source Selection

Copper and Kings Phoenix Barrel, The Party Source Single Cask

Copper and Kings is an American Brandy company based out of Louisville. This selection is a single cask that went through a process they called a Phoenix Barrel. With this process, C&K took 500 liter ex-sherry butts and aged grape and apple brandy in them for 16 months. This wood was then used to char the new oak barrel staves that would be used for aging along with ex-Bourbon barrels.

ABV: 64%

Nose: Grapes, Oak, baking spices, allspice, plum and pear hint. Slight Green Apple.

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Grapey, tart and dry berries, oak, heavy allspice and vanilla.

Finish: Medium length, Raisins and baking spices, tart berries, spices. Warm

Rating: 7/10

I’m not sure what the impact the Phoenix process had on these casks but it made some good brandy. The flavors pop out strong and stay at the forefront, lingering and providing a good balanced. The tart and savory flavors are balanced out by a slight sweetness. I like what we are seeing out of C&K and look forward to trying more of their products.
