Review #190; Rum #6: Plantation Original Dark Overproof

Plantation Original Dark 73 % Overproof Rum

This is the predecessor to the now standard Plantation OFTD 69% offering. Lets see how it holds up

ABV: 73%

Nose: Heat, Caramel, Dark Chocolate, Fruity.

Palate: Thick and oily, Heat, Dark Chocolate, slight funk, spice. Dry heat lingers

Finish: Long, caramel, dark chocolate, funk, vanilla, spice.

Rating: 6/10

Having had this back to back with the 69% OFTD, that offering edges it out slightly as a neat drinker. The 4% increase in proof turned the heat up enough to be slightly hotter. I would bet this now discontinued product would be great in an old fashioned.
