Review #153; American Single Malt #1: Stranahan’s Diamon Peak

Background: This is a release of 100% malted barley aged for 4 years from Stranahans distillery located in Colorado. I had this blind so keep that in mind while reading this.

ABV: 47%

Nose: Grassy, Earthy, Greenwood, Rye Spice,

Palate: Thin, Watery Mouthfeel. Oak, Astringent, slight spice. Slight Mocha

Finish: Short, oak, astringent, warm.

Rating: 4/10

Guess: This isn’t bad, but it just has very little flavor. I would guess a rye or high rye bourbon, young from that green wood note, and between 42-45% abv. Between 4-6 years old.

Reveal: Stranahan’s Diamond Peak

Well I was off on this one, I think this is the first American Single Malt I’ve had. While I failed to detect the barely, it was really different. The off putting greenwood note gave off its young age.

Overall, it isn’t too bad, but for the $70 price tag I would be left very disappointed if I were to purchase an entire bottle of this.
